Our Purpose
The purpose of the West Michigan Blues Society is to promote and preserve the appreciation of blues music.
The West Michigan Blues Society (WMBS) was established in 1990 to promote and preserve the rich history of blues music as it concerns West Michigan, its impact on American culture, and commerce in musical arts and industry. The WMBS is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit all-volunteer membership organization, including the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is elected by a slate of nominees to the current board, annually. The offices of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer are determined at the first business meeting following the elections. The WMBS promotes blues appreciation by sponsoring concerts, festivals, and community events. We also cooperate and correspond with other blues oriented groups locally and around the world to exchange ideas that will enhance the program locally and nationally. For example, The WMBS is an associate member of The Blues Foundation, which is a national Blues organization based in Memphis, TN. The WMBS also maintains relationships with in-state blues societies like The Kalamazoo Valley Blues Association, Capital Area Blues Society and Detroit Blues Society.
